Meet Scott Johnson

Photographer. Storyteller. International judge. Not particularly good at sitting still.

Hey, I’m Scott, the photographer behind The Edge Photography in Essex. I’ve worked professionally as a photographer since 2002 and photographed weddings since 2006, across the UK and overseas.

I bring together natural, documentary moments and creative portraits. I want couples to remember how their wedding felt, not how long they spent posing for photographs. Expect a relaxed approach, genuine laughter and a little direction when you need it.

Experience behind every photograph

After more than two decades in photography, I know that weddings rarely follow a script. Knowing how to handle changing light, a fast-moving timetable and unexpected moments means you can enjoy the day while I take care of the photographs.

Fellowships and international awards

I’m a Fellow of the British Institute of Professional Photography (FBIPP) and hold two Fellowships with the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers (FSWPP), in Wedding and Documentary Photography. My 2017 Documentary Fellowship, created at Auschwitz, was photographed entirely on film. In 2018, I received the SWPP Master Photographer title.

My competition achievements include WPPI Gold awards, being the only British winner at WPPI Las Vegas in 2019, and a Diamond Award at the Professional Photographers of America’s International Photographic Competition in 2025. In 2026, I was awarded the PPA Photographic Craftsman degree.

International judge, educator and mentor

I’ve judged for SWPP, WPPI and other international competitions, including serving as the only British judge at the World Photographic Cup in 2020, 2021 and 2023. I also teach and mentor other photographers. Sharing knowledge keeps me curious and challenges me to keep developing creatively.

What it means for your wedding

These credentials matter because of what they allow me to bring to your day: confidence, experience, attention to real moments and the ability to create something special without taking over your celebration.

Whether you’re planning an Essex wedding, a smaller celebration or a destination wedding, the approach stays the same: your people, your story, your photographs.
